In today’s world, students can experience and learn like never before, thanks to technology. Many activities in classrooms today focus on interactivity with technology. Even outside of school, technology is paramount to a student’s success. With the popularity of video games and virtual reality, the opportunities for educational use of technology is endless. Here’s how technology helps students succeed in school:
Writing Papers
Not only are papers required to by typed in high school, much of the research needed for a research paper is done on computers and digital encyclopedias. With a computer and internet access, students obtain information from resources they would not otherwise be able to access.
Learning Skills
Many skills can now be learned through digital simulation in the classroom. Students also learn life skills that will benefit them one day in the workplace such as typing, calculator skills, and proper email communication.
Retention
Studies have shown that students who take notes remember information more than students who do not. Technology allows students to not only take detailed typed notes, but record audio or visual presentations to help with learning. In fact, many teachers assign creative video projects to students so they can learn material better.
Technology allows teachers to connect with and teach students of all learning styles, so all students have a better opportunity to learn.
Engagement
Technology is more likely to keep students engaged and learning. Teens often are naturally drawn to mobile devices, video games, computers, and other technology. Using this same technology in the classroom can help keep them engaged in the material.
How you can help
Technology is often expensive, and it becomes a challenge for many parents to provide the needed technology for their children. Without it, many foster children are at a great disadvantage.
Arizona Friends of Foster Children Foundation is dedicated to getting foster kids the resources they need to succeed. Donate today to help a foster student get the technology they need.
